Renee Maderazo

Creative expression is tied to the exploration of identity. While my artistic practice crosses multiple mediums, all my works share in devotion to this mantra. I love working with rough materials, managing the struggle of creating to impart my vision into my chosen medium, and finding a part of myself inside my process. In many ways this process of building up and breaking down is no different in the emotional labor of people than in the physical manipulation sheets of paper or wooden boards. Every flick of the wrist, every segment of a line, every cut with a gauge, and every roll of a press connects me to the piece and is an expression of my passion. Art is a cathartic source of self-reflection and provides a level of insight into the world around me and the role I play in it. Nothing I create is done without meaning, and regardless of its importance, everything is created for me.
